Best Alsace Wineries: Good to know

Which villages to visit in Alsace?

Neuf-Brisach, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is an incredible village to visit in the Alsace wine region. This Alsatian city is shaped like a star and was originally commissioned by Louis XIV. Additionally, the village of Eguisheim is not classified in the most beautiful villages of France by chance. Near this village, be sure to visit the Wolfberger winery, renowned for its sparkling wines and delicious brandies. Last, Hunawihr, in the middle of Alsace’s best vineyards, or Kaysersberg, are among some of the top recommended visits during your trip to Alsace.

What is the best time for a winery tour and wine tasting in Alsace?

To avoid tourists, visit Alsace from January to March. Although winter is sometimes quite harsh in Alsace, you will be happy with the peacefulness at this time and the low season prices are often attractive to visitors during the cold season.

In Spring, you will be delighted to discover all the flowering villages across the region. A local specialty that has made the reputation of Alsace.

Summer is the harvest season. You will be able to learn the secrets of the region's winemakers, and their vines will be full of beautiful bunches of white grapes.

However, again, wintertime (December to be exact) is the prime time for tourism in Alsace, with Christmas markets abundant and each one all more magnificent than the last.

How to find the Alsace wine route?

It is easy to find the Alsace wine route. If you are going to Strasbourg or Colmar by car, you will find directions allowing you to follow the route from North to South or South to North, all while discovering the most beautiful villages in France. You will also find many wine cellars open on and around the Alsace wine route, many of which are often open on the weekend.

How can I book an Alsace wine tour or tasting?

You can book your Alsace wine tour in minutes using Winalist’s platform. The specific tour you book is all about what you want to do during your tour, who you're traveling with, and your personal preferences. You may decide that you want to spend the day tasting wines at several of the best Alsace wineries and vineyards while being driven around by a professional guide in a comfortable vehicle. Or, you may prefer a customized Alsace wine tour where you plan out what wineries you want to visit and which activities (such as lunch) will be included in your experience.

What Type of Wine is Produced in the Alsace Region of France?

There are three main types of wine produced in the Alsace wine region - white varietals, rosés, and red wines. The dominant grape varieties include pinot gris and gewürztraminer in the north; riesling, sylvaner and pinot blanc in the center; and pinot noir in the south. Rosé wines are made from either white grapes or a blend of red and white grapes.

What are the most popular Alsace wine & spirits producers?

The Alsace region concentrates a wide choice of wine or spirits estates. However, the top 3 wineries or distilleries preferred by our visitors for tours and tasting are:
  • Au Péché Vigneron - Vins Zeyssolff with an average rating of 4.7 among 242 reviews.
  • Domaine Schneider Jean Marc with an average rating of 4.9 among 198 reviews.
  • Maison Jean Huttard with an average rating of 4.8 among 126 reviews.

How much does a winery tour and wine tasting in Alsace cost?

In Alsace, the average price of a cellar tour with wine tasting is €33.00. Prices vary according to several criteria:
  • The duration of the experience: The longer the visit and tasting, the higher the cost.
  • The type of visit: Visit to a cellar, wine estate, or distillery.
  • The presence of a guide: A tour guided by an expert, especially over a half or full day, can increase the price.
  • Services included: Premium tastings, number of wines tasted, and additional activities such as wine workshops or meals.
The most economical experience in the area is Traditional tasting at a price of €5.00 and the most expensive is Gourmet Guided Tour - Colmar Historic Center at €199.00.
