The Lima Valley, Monção Valley, and Melgaço Valley, in Alto Minho, are two of the nine subregions that make up the Vinho Verde wine region.
The capital of the Lima Valley is Ponte de Lima, a precious jewel on the banks of the Lima River, with its abundant heritage built over more than 900 years of history. This includes wine estates, many of them centuries old. The white Loureiro grape variety predominates there.
Monção e Melgaço is located in the Minho River Valley, which defines part of the border with Galicia, where the expressive and distinctive white Alvarinho grape variety reigns supreme. And on both sides, a shared history pulsates at every turn: in the vestiges of pre-Roman Celtic culture, in Roman heritage, in the medieval roads of Santiago de Compostela, and in the roots of the founding of the Portuguese nation.
