My project stems from my interest in a small vineyard near the village of Muda, Comporta, planted by my uncle António about 50 years ago so he could drink wine with his friends.
Since I was little, I remember spending holidays at my uncle's house and helping tend the vineyard, scaring away the birds, picking the grapes, and even treading the grapes in the wine press. As he got older, my uncle decided to abandon the vineyard and stayed that way for a few years.
In 2012, I decided to restore the vineyard, part of which had already been taken over by pine trees, prune it, and put what was possible back into production. That same year, we returned to making wine in my uncle's small winery.
In 2014, as I wasn't happy with the wine I was making, I decided to study oenology and viticulture. However, since I worked full-time, I couldn't complete the training in Lisbon. However, the same part-time training was available in Porto, taking place on Fridays and Saturdays. So I headed to Porto for two years, where I not only learned about oenology and viticulture, but also made lifelong friends and did my first harvest internship at Niepoort, which made me fall in love with the Douro.
In 2018, I replanted the area, which was practically only pine trees, with Arinto and expanded the vineyard with Castelão, a grape variety already present in the oldest vineyard.
