Château De Pressac
The history of Château de Pressac begins in the Middle Ages since it was founded at that time, as evidenced by its medieval gate. The Château was then fortified several times. In 1453, it was at Château de Pressac, following the French victory at Castillon-la-Bataille, that the surrender took place, ending the Hundred Years' War. From 1737 to 1747, Vassal de Montviel planted a noble grape variety originating from Quercy in his vineyards: Auxerrois. In the surrounding vineyards, the owners did the same. Thus, the grape variety took the name of "Noir de Pressac". Later, Sieur Malbek developed it in the Bordeaux region, and the grape variety was then called "Malbec". In 1997, Jean-François and Dominique Quenin acquired the property. They in turn carried out major work to improve and extend the vineyard. In particular, they are bringing back into cultivation steep hillsides, formerly worked with oxen, by creating narrow terraces in contour lines. The winery, for its part, was completely redesigned and renovated in 1999. It was in the fall of 2012, during the new Saint-Emilion classification that Château de Pressac was promoted to Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Emilion. Château de Pressac has different fundamental values which are simplicity, authenticity and excellence.

Fabulous. We were lucky enough to have a private tour so had our lovely guide to ourselves. Fascinating history to the chateaux in a beautiful part of the St Emilion countryside. Tasted some gorgeous wines with cheeses too. Highly recommend
