Discover our wines and the characteristics of the Alentejo grape varieties through a visit to the winery and participate in a wine tasting of the Sonhador range (white, rosé and red), accompanied by a selection of cheeses, olives and regional charcuterie.

In the high-altitude region of Portalegre, in the Alentejo region, Howard’s Folly produces its award-winning wines, recognized for their elegance and character. The cool climate of this high-altitude region allows the grapes to develop slowly, resulting in sophisticated flavors that distinguish these wines. Our wines are a true expression of the fantastic terroir that is Portalegre.
Howard’s Folly was created in 2005 by Howard Bilton – who was living in Hong Kong at the time – and by one of the most renowned winemakers in Portugal – Australian David Baverstock. As expected, the wines resulting from this partnership are unique in their own right and are receiving fantastic reviews from some of the world’s best wine critics – Parker, Jancis Robinson, Matthew Jukes, James Suckling, etc.
But we do much more than produce fine wines. Every bottle sold contributes to the Sovereign Art Foundation (SAF), which supports art therapy programs for disadvantaged children around the world and now also in Portugal.
Our bottle labels are true works of art, created by the children supported by the SAF Foundation and by the professional artists who collaborate with the foundation. These labels tell a story of creativity and hope.
When you choose a bottle of Howard's Folly wine, you're not only choosing an excellent wine, but also contributing to a cause that truly makes a difference.
