Historical Visit

The first red wines were produced in 2005 (production of 5000 litres), produced in a small borrowed winery, under the Foral de Portimão Colheita Selecionada, Reserva and single-varietal Petit Verdot brands.

In 2007, in the Quinta da Penina winery, the João D´Arens brand was produced, in homage to the writer and first Algarve President of the Republic, Manuel Teixeira Gomes, who in his book Agosto Azul, refers to the vineyards on João D´Arens’ site.

In 2008, the first white wine was produced using the Arinto and Crato Branco (Síria or Roupeiro) grape varieties.

In 2009, the first Rosé was produced, using the Petit Verdot grape variety, and a new red Foral de Portimão DUO, made with the Cabernet Sauvignon and Alicante Bouschet grape varieties and without ageing in wood.

In 2012, the Quinta da Penina brand was launched, with the Quinta da Penina Reserva red 2010.

Production has been increasing since 2005, reaching its peak in 2018 with 110 thousand litres.

The new winery (opened in July 2021) is located in the Pateiro Industrial Park, in Parchal (Lagoa) and is equidistant from the production areas, Quintas da Penina and Palmeirinha.
