Flavors of Douro

Duas Árvores was created to celebrate the friendship and dream of two great friends, José and Luiz, to rediscover their Lusitanian roots. Their surnames, Castanheira and Oliveira, refer to two trees typical of the flora of the Douro region, which served as inspiration for the name of the project.

The adventure began in 2012 with the acquisition of Quinta da Marcela in the heart of the Douro Valley, the oldest demarcated and regulated wine-growing region in the world, classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2001.

Set in a beautiful landscape and surrounded by some of the region's most prestigious wineries, it is located in the majestic Mendiz Valley.

Its 16 hectares of vineyards are planted on small schist terraces from the right bank of the Pinhão River to 550 metres above sea level, with various sun exposures and marked by the diversity of grape varieties planted.

These characteristics, combined with different micro-climates, with cold, rainy winters and very hot, dry summers, but with cool nights, result in a unique terroir for the creation of unique, elegant and high-quality wines.
Its production, based on traditions, scientific knowledge and environmentally sustainable winemaking techniques, is controlled by a young and extremely dedicated team.
