Our Guided Tasting is the best option for those looking to gain a real insight into the production processes behind our wines and enjoy an informative wine tasting experience.

You'll be guided through three wines, covering the methods employed in the vineyard all the way through to bottling, including a tour of the winemaking facilities. We'll touch on key facts about the English Wine industry and talk you through our 40-year history as a wine producer.

At the end of the tasting, you'll also get the chance to sample two local Devon cheeses and you can head off on a self-guided walk around our nature trail, stopping at our 'Stony Field' vineyard.

Booking is essential for this tour. The self-guided walk can take up to 45 minutes and is on uneven terrain.

About the host

Established in 1981 on the Sharpham Estate near Totnes in South Devon, Sharpham Wine was one of the earliest pioneers of the English wine industry, with their wines quickly gaining national acclaim. In 2008, vines were planted on the Sandridge Barton Estate, on the opposite bank of the river Dart, which allowed the winery to increase production volume as well as showcase a greater variety of wine styles including sparkling and red wines. In 2020, the entire winery operation moved from its home on the Sharpham Estate over to Sandridge Barton, where a disused dairy farm was converted into a brand new state-of-the-art winery and visitor centre, which opened to the public in 2022. This new venture allowed a strong focus on sustainability, with eco-conscious practices being implemented in all parts of the build – from dedicated nesting spaces for barn owls and bats in the farm buildings, to solar panels, rainwater harvesting, air source heat pumps, an aerobic digestion waste system and spring water extraction throughout the site. The planting of additional vineyards has also facilitated the trialling of different cover-crops to provide natural weed control and soil nutrients, and the adoption of sustainable vineyard practices such as stopping the use of pesticides and herbicides, and the planting of wildflower meadows to encourage biodiversity.
Today, Sandridge Barton wines have won some of the highest accolades in the country, including Best Red, Best Still and Best Regional wine
